Our Leadership

Our Pastor
When people meet Pastor and Sister Staten, they often feel
like they have come home. That is
because Pastor and Sister Staten treat each person they meet as if he/she was
their own child. The same love that they
have for their physical children can be felt by each person who makes Living
Hope a church home.
Pastor Jerald Staten is known for his passion for evangelism. He can often be heard saying, “We MUST do this! We MUST change our world!” He believes that Jesus wants to heal the sick, fix the broken, and save the lost. Every moment of his week is spent reaching out to people in the DC Metro area. He shares his story, his time, and his hope from God with everyone he meets. He truly is a man who cares. |
Sister Linda Staten is such a gracious woman of God. She has such a quiet wisdom that endears her to all. She supports her husband in every aspect of his ministry. She leads our Ladies’ group, coordinates our Sunday school program, leads worship, and hosts many study groups in her home on a weekly basis. She shows her love for others through the many acts of service she offers on a daily basis.
Pastor Jerald and Linda Staten have been married for 39 years. They have been blessed with four wonderful children and 14 precious grandchildren. They consider themselves very blessed of God to have gathered so many precious friends, family, and experiences throughout their time of ministry.
Jerald Staten was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from high school in June of 1968 and served in the Viet Nam War from January 1969 to December 1972. It was in 1972 that Jerald felt the calling of the Lord’s ministry for his life, and he committed himself to building a relationship with Jesus Christ. In December of 1972 he and Linda, a young lady from Phoenix, AZ , were married. Jerald began attending Christian Life College in Stockton, CA, in January of 1973. In 1974, while still attending Christian Life College, he and Linda began their first Home Missions work as a branch ministry in Stockton, CA. In 1975 Jerald received his General
Ministerial License with the UPCI and became the Assistant Pastor in Madera, CA, and the following year was ordained by District Superintendent G.E. Wesson in
West Phoenix, AZ. He and Linda felt God calling them to Phoenix, AZ, so Jerald served as the Assistant Pastor for a year in Phoenix, and for four years in Sedona, AZ. In April of 1982 Jerald, Linda and their four children moved from Sedona to Lexington Park, MD, where they served as the Home Missions Pastor of Living Hope First UPC until April of 2007. At that time they followed God’s call to Washington, DC, where they presently serve as the Home Missions Pastor of Living Hope DC.
In addition to their service in the local church, Pastor Staten has served as the District Youth Secretary and District Youth Director in the Arizona District, the Home Missions Secretary and Home Missions Director in the Maryland/DC District, Presbyter of Section 3 in the Maryland/DC District, and is currently serving as the Focus DC Chairman.
Pastor and Sister Staten have also ministered in crusades in El Salvador and London, England and ministered in The Republic of Georgia, where their youngest son is a missionary.
